Founded in 1985, the AWC London has grown into an active organisation that supports Australian women and those with close Australian connections. It is comprised of those who have made their lives here and those who are here on contracts and will return home at some stage. Many live in central London and others in the capital’s suburbs and surrounding counties.
Club membership opens the door to numerous social and cultural activities and offers many opportunities to meet new people, to explore London and the surrounding countryside, and to learn more about living in England.
The Club communicates with its members via the website’s Members area, eNews blasts and a monthly newsletter, all advising of activities and events. The AWC London also has an active ‘private’ Facebook page.
The AWC London is a member of FIWAL, the Federation of International Women’s Associations in London and we are warmly invited to their functions. We also host an annual coffee morning for the FIWAL community and from time to time share activities with the New Zealand Women’s Association and the Canadian Women’s Club.
Through joining the AWC London, you will enjoy many benefits and become part of an active and supportive community in your adopted home.
We gratefully acknowledge our founder Pam Douglas, wife of the then Agent-General for Western Australia, and those women who helped Pam establish a small committee to help those Australian women who, finding themselves in London mainly due to their partners’ work, were missing the camaraderie of friends at home and the familiarity of Australian life. The club continues to grow and foster support and friendship well into 2017.
